Obituary

Irvin Phillip (aka "Caggie") was second of six children born to Allman David and Flossie Phillip in La Romaine, Trinidad.

He was a loving and gregarious person from his youth; always showing an interest in what life has to offer. He valued the association of people whom he truly cared about. Not an easy task these days, Caggie managed to cultivate and maintain long term relationships. No one he met was ever less than the other. His friends Nate, Mattney, Eddie, Greg, Gwen, Jerry and Dominic all could attest to the quality of a man Irvin Phillip was. The way Irvin made people feel always seem to leave such a lasting impression.

At 21 years of age, he migrated to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, then he sent for his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Mascall from Trinidad and Tobago. The union produced three children, Junior, Torrance, and Sheryl-Ann.

As life would have it, Irvin would find himself traveling here and there, until he ended up in the United States, where he decided to settle down. While in the States, he was smitten again with love, trying his luck at marriage a second time around. It seems that he had an attraction to Patricias. To their union, they had a daughter, Irva.

Irvin held down a variety of jobs in his lifetime. In St. Croix, he worked at the Hess Oil Refinery. He worked at a Chemical Plant in Louisiana by the name of PPG Industries, which is located in Westlake, LA. He was employed by PPG Industries for more than 22 years before retiring. He also volunteered his services to the Louisiana Fire Department before and after his retirement.

He was not one to sit on his laurels, keeping himself busy and engaged, he spent much time coaching a soccer team by the name of the Cougars.

Irvin cherished the lifestyle he created for himself in Louisiana. He enjoyed playing Zydeco music and the southern comfort of keeping house. He had one of the neatest homes in Louisiana. Maintaining the lawn was important to him as it always had to be neat and trimmed.

Irvin loved his siblings to the core and enjoyed spending time with them where they could all recall the trials and triumphs of their youth, right up into their adult years. Each sibling played a role in those experiences which would make them stronger in dealing with situations of success and loss.

Irvin was a practical man who lived a practical life. He understood the principal of sowing and reaping, and as a result, he knew life didn't occur by happenstance. You had to diligently work at it to make things happen for the better.

Today, we mourn his passing by celebrating his life and giving thanks for his life teachings.

Preceded in death by both parents, Irvin Phillip leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Lenore Liverpool of New York; brothers, Frances, Herman, Allan, and Norman of Trinidad and Tobago; his sisters-in-law, Claudia and Edris; and Sierra Nevels of Louisiana, who was like an adopted daughter; his children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a host of extended family and friends. Work done; purpose fulfilled; it is our prayer that he rests in perpetual peace.
