Obituary

Jack Charles Bailey was born in Lake Charles to the late Nelson Bailey and Annie (Maynes) Bailey on July 6, 1931 in Lake Charles, LA .  He departed his life on November 20, 2018 at the age of 87.

He graduated from W. O. Boston High School; upon high school graduation he entered military service in the Air Force, serving four years.  After honorably being separated from the Air Force, he attended McNeese State University.  While attending McNeese, he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Jack was an entrepreneur, a co-owner of B&B Trucking Business, before becoming an early civil rights activist.  He played a large role in integrating McNeese State University and professional positions at local oil refinery plants. He was also concerned for the environment, serving as a chairman of the Calcasieu Estuary Environmental Task Force and on the Board of Directors of Calcasieu League for Environmental Action Network.  For his commitment to the preservation of the environment and for being a leading advocate for conservation, he was honored with the National Wildlife Federation Conservation Achievement Award.

He was employed at Citgo Petroleum for over 25 years; he started out as an operator, moved up to console operator then served as a chief console operator operating four extraction units until his retirement in 1994.

Jack enjoyed fishing and sharing this pastime with family and friends.  He was also an excellent cook with fried "anything" being his specialty.  He was an expert at fixing things and loved to use his ingenuity to perform problem-solving during building projects.  Jack enjoyed spending time with family anytime, not just holidays, and especially enjoyed time with his grandkids.  Jack was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church where he proudly served as an usher.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Bailey, his father, Nelson Bailey; two sisters, Georgiana Mitchell and Lovie Joyce Bailey; and three brothers, Lee Bailey, John Bailey, and Leon Raymond, Jr.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his wife, Mabel Bailey; two daughters, Vickie Bailey of Carencro, LA and Trina Bailey of Lake Charles, LA; four step-sons Desmond Bobb of Grand Coteau, LA, Justin (Cathy) Bobb of Grand Coteau, LA, Brandon (Alana) Bobb of Opelousas, LA, and Stuart (Arannette) Bobb of Carencro, LA; two grandsons, Darian Bailey and Jon Bobb; five granddaughters, Olivia Bobb, Alyssa Bobb, Avery Bobb, Ashlyn Bobb, and Vivi Bobb; a sister, Gloria (Moses) Martin of Colorado Springs along with a host of nieces and nephews.
