Obituary

James A. Coleman was born on October 5, 1952 in Lake Charles, LA to the union of Sylvester and Agnes Milton Coleman.

On Friday morning, February 17th at 12:30 a.m. James departed this earthly life and went to join his Savior.

James was a 1970 Graduate of Washington High School in Lake Charles, LA. and served as President of his Senior Class. James married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Bertha Andrus on April 29, 1972.  To this union three children were born.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Agnes Coleman; Justin and Ethel Andrus (father-in-law and mother-in-law), brother-in-laws Nolton Andrus, Howard Lee and Karl Williams; sister-in-laws Helen Andrus and Georgia Andrus Henderson.

James is survived by his devoted and loving wife of thirty-nine years, Bertha Andrus Coleman, two sons, James A. (Renee) Coleman, II and John-Justin Coleman, both of Lake Charles, LA; and one daughter, Syreeta (Ralph) Presley of Houston, TX; four brothers, Sylvester (Elizabeth) Coleman, Jr. of Alexandria, LA; John (Ruby) Coleman of Augusta, GA, Floyd (Lillie) Coleman of Lake Charles, LA and David (Donna) Coleman of Houston, TX; three sisters: Genia Coleman-Lee of Baytown, TX, Brenda (John) Lafanette of Moss Bluff, LA and Sylvia Coleman of Baton Rouge, LA; seven grandchildren:  Nia Coleman, Nadia Coleman, Tai Coleman, Kaylan Coleman, Christian Coleman, Zavier Presley and James A. Coleman III; brother-in-law Clay Andrus of Lake Charles, LA; six sister-in-laws: Zola (Andrus) Brignac, Margie Andrus, Jessie Andrus, Mona Andrus and Justine Williams, all of Lake Charles, LA and Effie Steele of San Antonio, TX; one uncle, Roosevelt (Jean) Tanner and one aunt, Fannie Mae Broussard, both of Lake Charles, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services for James A. Coleman, Sr., 59 will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1102 Mill Street, Lake Charles, LA with Monsignor Ronald Groth officiating.  Internment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street, Lake Charles, LA from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The Knights of Peter Claver Council 31 3rd Degree will conduct rituals at 6:00 p.m.  Father Hannigan 4th Degree Knights of Peter Claver Assembly #6 will conduct rituals at 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will immediately follow.
