James Patrick Sam, 74, was called to his heavenly home Friday, November 24, 2023, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

He was born August 28, 1949, to the late Andrus and Nellie Sam in Opelousas, La. He was the third of four children.

James took pride in being in the military. He served as a Corporal in the Army and did two tours in the Vietnam War. There was never a conversation that he had with anyone where he did not bring up his military and war experience. He was also a faithful employee with the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a warehouse manager for 25 years up until his retirement. After James retired, he enjoyed fishing, supporting his grandkids in all of their endeavors, and he made sure that every Sunday all of the grandkids were at the house to watch the New Orleans Saints.

On May 10, 1986, he married the love of his life, Crystle Jones and in that union came three children.

He is proceeded in death by his parent, Andrus and Nellie Sam; grandparents Moise and Alice Sam; grandchildren Tyren and Tyreshia Sam.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Crystle Sam; three sons, Chris (Bershonica) Sam, Jason Sam, and Quincy (Stacie) Sam; one daughter Jessicca (Jarrod) Duhon; grandchildren, Jaylon, Tylon, Shamar, Jason Jr., Jamarie, Ja'Shawn, Deshawn, Javon, Jasmine, Avah, Day, Liberty, and Zachariah; two sisters, Linda Ceaser, Barbara (Patrick) Potier; one brother, Joseph (Evelyn) Sam; goddaughter Janis Hackney; and a host of relatives and friends.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, dad, and grandfather.
