Janet Elizabeth Powell, 56, died Wednesday April 28, 2015 in a local hospital.

Janet was born on January 26, 1959 to Henry Powell and Ella Louise Thomas and lived in Lake Charles, La. where she attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church all of her life. Janet attended First Ward Elementary, Cherry Street Elementary, Second Ward Elementary and Central Schools. She also attended Lincoln Junior High School. Janet graduated from Washington High School in 1977 and furthered her education attending Sowela Technical Institute. Janet graduated with honors from Delta School of Business, earning a degree in Travel Tourism and later attended Clark College obtaining her degree in Truck Driving, she was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where she was a dedicated bus driver for 25 years.

She was proceeded in death by her father Henry Powell, and her oldest brother James Ray. Survivors include her mother and best friend Ella Louise Thomas, one son Eric Powell, two daughters Erica Powell-Lee, and Erin Powell-Lee all of Lake Charles, La. Two brother Joseph (Judy) Wayne Powell of Lake Charles, La. and David (Bridgette) Powell of Katy, Tx. three sisters, Fernanda Powell of Lake Charles, La., Felicia (Paul) McCullough Of Brookshire, Tx., and Carla (Rickey) Reed of Houston, Tx. Janet also leaves to cherish her memories, one Godson, Lance Powell and On God Daughter, Jacoya Duncan. 14 Nephews, 6 Nieces, and a host of relatives and friends.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: May 9, 2015

Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 8:00 A.M to 10:40 A.M. in Combre Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
