Obituary

Jason Christopher (Jas Chris) Young, 50 years old, born on Friday September 13, 1974, in Lake Charles, LA, to Rosa S. Smith and the late Alfred Young, Sr. While in Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by family, the angels carried him home on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

At birth he was pronounced stillborn until an attentive Nun realized he was breathing. Jason was truly blessed by God from the beginning of his life. At the age of four his appendix ruptured, and God continued to grant him favor as he survived. On another occasion he stopped breathing, but a friend continued CPR until the paramedics arrived, and he survived. He told them he died, and God Almighty brought him back. God was always in his corner. Jason had a strong faith-based life and always knew God had him. Jason was an avid storyteller, he joked with his family and friends and had nicknames for everyone he knew. He visited family frequently and looked out for everyone, wanting to make sure they knew he loved them, and they all loved him the same. He loved to play games (electronic and board), listening to music, old school and new. "Remembering old times" was his favorite storytelling moments. He would tell one Aunt she was his favorite and then telling the same thing to the next Aunt. He had nicknames for everyone especially his sister, Tonya, who he called Tonka.

Jason graduated from Lake Charles Boston High School, Class of 1993. He later attended Sowela Technical Community College and was attending McNeese State University where he was thriving in business management, so much he made the Dean's List twice.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Morris, and Myrtle Skipper; siblings Kimberly West and Alfred Young, Jr. and stepsister, Ethel Smith; his Aunt, Qwendolyn Syas and Uncle Glenver Skipper. A first cousin, he considered an Uncle, Claude Says; stepmom, Patricia C. Young; and nephew, Emmanuel Young.

Remembering Jason and cherishing his memories are his mother, Rosamary Skipper Smith; the young man he considered a bonus son, Jaelen D. Ennis; brothers, Damon Troy Skipper and Ronald Young; sisters, Tonya (Paul) Thomas, Elfreida Smith, Alana Young Tezeno, Berttina Young, and Brittany Young all of Lake Charles, LA. Stepsisters, Bertha Smith of Houston, TX and Tambra S. (Jarvis) Mingo of Kaplan, LA. Nieces and nephews, Davon (Erica) Skipper, Chanielle L. Skipper, Troy D. Thomas, Nicole M.
