Jeffery Joseph “Jay” Chretien, Jr.
March 2, 1993 – August 18, 2026
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
Jeffery Joseph “Jay” Chretien, Jr. was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on March 2, 1993, to Jeffery Chretien, Sr. and Linda Chretien. The youngest of four siblings, Jay was deeply loved by his family and grew to become an important part of the bond that held them together.
The greatest blessing of his life was his wife of six years, Chasity Renee "Chas" Chretien. Theirs was a love that was easy to see, playful and tender and completely their own, silly on a level only the two of them understood; they lived for each other. Jay married the one God intended for him, and Chas did the same, and no one who spent time around them ever doubted it. Their love was truly something special. They were simply meant for each other.
Jay was a devoted Catholic and lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. His faith was not simply something he professed, but something he lived. He faithfully attended Mass and enjoyed serving his parish, especially cooking and working the burger crew booth during the annual church bazaar. Through A.C.T.S., (Adoration, Community, Theology and Service), Jay embraced Christ's call to be a fisher of men, sharing his faith, serving others, and helping draw those around him closer to Christ. That faith showed up in extraordinary ways. Jay was selfless almost by reflex, the one making sure everyone around him was comfortable, well fed, and enjoying themselves. He never needed credit for it and rarely made anything about himself. He was exactly who he appeared to be, all the way down, and what was down there was a pure heart.
Jay was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. For the past six years he worked for Westlake Chemical in various roles, but more recently cell renewal and tankerman. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Jay started his own car detailing service, something he genuinely loved, taking real satisfaction in handing a car back better than he found it. Outside of work, Jay loved old-school music, laughter, family, friends, and good food. He was a great cook, especially outdoors, and was known for his sauce piquante and barbecue. He was generous, funny, and completely himself, with a presence that made ordinary moments more enjoyable. If Jay was there, there was a good chance people were eating, laughing, and having a good time.
On August 18, 2026, Jay entered eternal life and was reunited with his grandparents, Hollin Chretien, Sr. and Leona Chretien, Perry Richard, and Gloria Jean.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of six years, Chasity Renee Chretien; his parents, Jeffery Chretien, Sr. and Linda Chretien; his siblings, Lance (Tressa) Chretien, Ashley (Markell) Williams, and Nicholas (Tewanda) Chretien; his beloved nieces and nephews, Landon, Jackson, Tyren, Mason, Nyla, Jaydin, Caleb, Anthony, Andre, McKenzie, Kyrie, Kacey, his godchildren Rhydan and Sydni, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, A.C.T.S. brothers and sisters, coworkers, church family, friends, and his dog Destini, whom he affectionately called “FeeFee”.
Jay was simply a good man. He loved his wife deeply, his family completely, and Christ faithfully. Those who knew Jay will remember the laughter, the music, the cooking, the generosity, and the way he made people feel when they were around him. Above all, they will remember his heart.
