IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph "Moon"
Evans Jr.
September 6, 1963 – September 20, 2022
Joseph Evans, Jr, lovingly known as "Moon" was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 6, 1963, to the late Joseph Evans, Sr and Juliet (Sue) Swarner. Moon lived the majority of his life in Kinder, Louisiana; where he raised a beautiful family, Lelande Joseph Evans and Le'Ann Jones, with his previous wife Adrienne Evans.
Throughout his life, Moon traveled the globe living in destinations such as Texas, Maryland, Missouri , Michigan, and Germany. He also enjoyed traveling for leisure; Puerto Rico and Mexico being his favorites. After traveling, he enjoyed serving his community, especially the youth.
Moon's greatest accomplishments came from being a father and mentor. Joseph loved his family and poured into them at every chance. When he talked about his children, he always had a big smile on his face ;it was as if he was talking about the best thing since ice cream. It was second nature for him to be a vital part of his younger cousins' upbringing as well.
He also had a witty way of entertaining his audience with fantastical stories. He did this in such a way that it made his audience ask, "and what happened next? ". His words of encouragement, advice, greatness, grace, and prosperity will linger in our minds long after the calls of comfort end.
Personally, hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes. Joseph held leases and would regularly spend time in Toledo Bend and Northern Louisiana with his son and friends big game hunting. His call to ministry later in life brought him closer to the word of God and many in the community.
Joseph graduated from Kinder High School in 1981 and received a Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) in 1985. While at USL, Joseph played as a defensive tackle for the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) football team, number 60.
As a professional, Joseph served as a Town of Kinder City Council Member, Notary Club member, and an auxiliary police officer. He coached and mentored softball, football, and basketball teams from the 1990s to the 2000s. His professional years boast numerous accolades from Schlumberger, FEMA, Walgreens, and Allen Correctional Center, where he worked through the ranks to Warden.
Joseph "Moon" Evans, Jr was preceded in death by a son: Jean Luke Evans; his parents: Joseph Evans, Sr and Juliette (Sue) Swarner; Grandparents: Fred and Selena Jopes, Reverend Arthur and Mary Miller.
He leaves to cherish his memory, children: Lelande Joseph Evans, Le'Ann Jones (Terry Jones); Grandchildren: Graham Jones, Isaiah Jones; Brother: Lionel "Poochie" Evans (Lois Evans); Nephew: Joshua Evans; three great nieces, his lifetime love: Adrienne Evans, and a host of aunts, uncles, and relatives.
