Juanita Gaines departed this life on October 2, 2017 at her home
surrounded by family.

Mrs. Gaines (lovingly known as Nita or Nanny to most) was born to the late Herman
Johnson and Elarita Dayon Johnson on August 6, 1947 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

She attended Washington High School. She then went on to enlist in the United States
Army where she served three and a half years as an Army Medic. She received an
honorable discharge as a Rank E5. She re-enlisted in the United States Army Reserve as a
Communication Specialist for over a year until her medical discharge. She met and
married Ivan Tilman Gaines who she loving referred to as Bobby.

Mrs. Gaines leaves to cherish her loving memory her mother, Elarita D. Johnson of Lake
Charles, LA; former husband, Ivan Tilman Gaines; brothers, Aaron (Alice) Johnson,
Alfred Johnson and Felix Johnson all of Opelousas, LA; sisters, Monica Jane (Eddie
Bryant) Mormon of Lake Charles, LA, and Carol Marie (Sidney) Jones of Carson, CA;
goddaughters, Tuwana Mormon and Keanna Williams both of Lake Charles, LA; and a
host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gaines is preceded in death by her father, Herman Johnson; brothers, Jack Victor
Johnson, Calvin Dayon and Johnnie Johnson.
