IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larrual (Larry)
Kurt Collins
January 23, 1955 – February 4, 2021
Larrual Kurt Moses Collins Sr., 66 of Lake Charles, Louisiana transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 4, 2021. "Larry", as he was affectionately known was born January 23, 1955 in Lafayette, LA to Mose and Agnes Collins.
A native of Lake Charles, Larry attended Carver Elementary and Lake Charles High for his primary and secondary education. After graduation, he attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) where he attained a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree.
Larry was a faithful and dedicated member of Reeves Temple CME Church in Lake Charles where he served the Lord until his death. He was a member of Usher Board II and tirelessly worked as a member of the Trustee Board. He also took joy in cooking and delivering meals for the church's famous BBQ fundraiser and many other church activities.
Larry was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School Board for over a decade. He later went to work for Entergy as an operator and retired in 2016 after 25 years. While at Entergy, Larry belonged to the IBEW Union #2286. He served as the union steward representing employees, where he used his voice to seek out change for improving relationships within the organization. He also consulted with management on employee working conditions and improving plant processes.
Larry invested his time working with youth and served as a little league baseball coach through Mid-City for over ten years. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed traveling, especially with his family and dear friends.
There wasn't much that Larry could not do; he did everything from carpentry, landscaping, photography, and architectural work. He even designed several homes in the area. However, his greatest joy was cooking and entertaining his family and friends. He loved his family and taught his boys the value of hard work, integrity and taking care of one another. He was known as "Pop' to his grandson and they had many adventures together, including riding the four-wheeler.
Larry was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his father, Mose Collins; brother, Courtlande Collins Sr.; sister, Sheila Ozane; maternal grandparents Herbert & Stella Goodwin; and paternal grandparents Woodman & Regina Collins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Carol A. Collins; two sons, Larry (Laurie) Collins of Houston, TX and Jarvis (Audrey) Collins of Lake Charles, LA. He will be dearly missed by his mother, Agnes Collins; grandson, Kyler Collins; sister, Gabrielle (Chuck) Sonnier all of Lake Charles, LA, and brother, Troye (Olivia) Collins of Austin, TX along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
