Larry Henry, Sr., 78, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, peacefully transitioned on May 5, 2026. A man of unwavering faith, generosity, and compassion; Larry was deeply loved by all who knew him. He possessed a warm spirit, a sharp wit, and a giving heart that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He truly never met a stranger.

Larry was born on January 4, 1948, in DeRidder, Louisiana, to the late Louis and Laura Henry. He graduated from Allen High School, Class of 1966, and continued his education at the University of New Mexico. In 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army and, in that same year, married the love of his life, Beverly Henry. Following his honorable discharge in 1970, Larry relocated to Hartford, Connecticut, where he would reside for 33 years.

While in Connecticut, Larry dedicated over three decades of service to the State of Connecticut, retiring as the Director of Laboratory Services. He was a faithful member of Pilgrim Way Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut, where he served diligently as a Deacon. Additionally, he was a Past Most Worshipful Master of Excelsior Lodge #3, exemplifying leadership and commitment within the community.

After retirement, Larry returned to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church in November 2003. There, he faithfully served in numerous capacities, including Deacon, Secretary of the Deacon Board (appointed in 2007), Church Administrator, Sunday School Teacher, and Vacation Bible School instructor. He also lent his voice to the Annual Men’s Day Choir. One of his most cherished contributions was helping to establish the beloved “Throw down Thursdays,” a time of fellowship where church staff, family, and community leaders gathered to share meals and meaningful connection.

Larry had a passion for golf. Whether playing on the course or watching the game, it brought him great joy. More importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was admired and respected by his family, church, and community.

Mount Calvary Baptist Church is all the better for the gift God gave through the life of Deacon Larry Henry, Sr. His legacy of love, service, and fellowship will forever remain in our hearts.
