Lawrence Everton Stevens "Ton-yus & Steve" age 76 died Saturday morning January 4, 2014, in his residence.

Mr. Stevens was born May 25, 1937 in Grand Prairie, a district of Washington, Louisiana. He was the third child born of eleven children to the late Linton Stevens Sr. and Marie Hazel Slaughter-Stevens. He attended Plaisance and Paul Lawrence Dunbar High Schools. In the early 1960''s he married Ora Lee Carter of Church Point, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Marcelite Thibodeaux and Aurelien Slaughter; his paternal grandparents Alicia Marie Comeaux and Lucius Stevens; his parents Marie Hazel Slaughter Stevens and Linton Stevens Sr.; two brothers Linton Stevens Jr. and Lucius Stevens II; one half-sister Loretta Stevens.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ora Lee Carter-Stevens; one daughter Laverne Denise Miller-Gutierrez; two sons Terry Allen Stevens (Corrina Denise Stevens) and David Allen Stevens; five grandchildren, Lastasha T. Miller-Franklin, Leighton Matthew Gutierrez, Charity Lewis, Tauslyn Lynn Stevens and Myles Stevens all of Houston, Texas. One brother, Benjamin Stevens (Charmaine) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, seven sisters Willie Mae Freeman (the late Lehman Sr.) and Mercy Lee Guillory (Kelly) both of Ville Platte, Louisiana; Enola Stevens, Melvola Leviege (Hamilton Jr.) , Joyce Marie Broussard (LeRoy) all of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jeanella Burleigh (the late Rufus) of Beaumont, Texas and Eleanor Jackson (Larry) of Armond Beach, Florida.

Lawrence Stevens came to Lake Charles, La. In 1956. He was first employed by Lake Charles Scrap Metal and had a life-long career as a lineman for Gulf States Utilities.

Funeral Monday at 6 pm visitation from 3pm-6pm at Mt Calvary Baptist Church. Dismissal 9am Tue 1-14-2013.
