Her Beginnings
Our beloved Leatrice Monique Hebert was born to the parents of Larry and Maudell Hebert on September 3rd, 1980, in Lake Charles, LA. On Thursday, October 6th, 2022, God in accordance to his sovereign plan called Leatrice home.
It was apparent that Leatrice was a special child. She was bright, inquisitive, and definitely made her presence known. Leatrice had a passion for writing, singing, and music. She started playing piano at the early age of five and continued throughout her entire life touching the lives of many through song and music. Her very first job was as a student in Middle School teaching piano lessons to young kids at home and later teaching piano at Oak Park Middle School.
Her Religious Affiliations
Leatrice had been a lifelong, devout Catholic who was very active as a Musical Director, a musician, and a cantor in the church. Leatrice was baptized as an infant, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was very dedicated to the church and always present for events, activities and special functions she was invited to attend or perform. Her radiant smile truly warmed the hearts of many. Throughout her illness, Leatrice kept the faith, never questioning the will of God.
Her Education and Career
Leatrice attended Immaculate Heart and Sacred Heart Schools from kindergarten to middle school years. She graduated with honors at St. Louis Catholic High School in 1998. She also received top awards in Honor Chorus and district and state relay rallies during the four years she attended high school. Leatrice was a 2017 graduate of McNeese State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a minor in Music Education. She taught English, Music, and Chorus at Oak Park Middle School for several years. She developed a great love for music that was shared with brothers along with many others. Leatrice was employed by Calcasieu Parish School as an educator at Oak Park Middle School where she was loved tremendously by her students and fellow colleagues.
Blessed Life
Her most accomplished goal and cherished blessing was the reward of being the Mother of her two sons Elliot and Darrien. She had a special relationship with her children, who were the "Loves" of her life. They always came first and she did her very best to raise them to be strong and independent.
Leatrice, Laurence and Leland had a strong bond and were a wonderful team as siblings, friends and musicians. She was the typical big sister, always giving advice, having their own concerts, hanging out on the town, and helping in any way she could.
Leatrice loved life and people. She was very creative and anointed to sing and express her love for life through piano and songs. She was a caring, considerate and loving person and she enjoyed her life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed. We truly Praise GOD for the time HE gave us with Leatrice.
She was predeceased by her father: Larry J. Hebert and step-mother: Donna Hebert; grandparents: Isabelle Hebert, John and Maude Orphey; great grandmother: Julia Hebert; aunts: Sharon Sims Izard and Terrie Sims Senegal.
