Lessie V. Gallien, age 97 died at 7:15pm Sunday, August 18, 2013 in her home.
She was a native of St. Landry Parish and she lived in Lake Charles, La. for 70 years. She has been a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church since 1943. She has been a member of Ladies of Auxiliary since July 16, 1936 starting in Holy Ghost Parish in Opelousas, La. and transferring to Lake Charles, La. As a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish she joined several organizations: Altar and Rosary Society; Legion of Mary as treasurer; extraordinary minister of communion; minister to the sick; the rosary group; Senior Citizen Group; Rosary House Volunteer; Lady of the Year of District 6 Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver.
Mrs. Gallien has volunteered for several non-profit service organizations as follows: Arthritis Foundation; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; American Heart Association and Cancer Society.
Predeceased by her parents Paul Valmont and Antoinette Valmont; husband Joseph Gallien Sr. daughter Celestine Taylor, son Joseph Gallien Jr. and grandson Michael Alexander.
Survivors include eight daughters: Eva (Russell, Sr.) Washington of Washington, DC; Lucy Vincent of Westlake, La; Margaret (Thomas) Lemelle of Lake Charles, La; Cecelia Collins of Westlake, La; Patricia Gallien of Vallejo, CA; Agnes Gallien, Gertrude Gallien, and Mary Gallien all of Lake Charles, La, two sons; John Gallien and Patrick Gallien both of Lake Charles, La, 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers-in-law Edward (Eleanor) Gallien, Wilford Gallien both of Lake Charles, La., and son-in-law Charles Taylor of Carenco, La.
Her funeral will be at 10am Saturday, August 24th, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lake Charles, La. The Rev. Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Charles, La. under the direction of Combre''s funeral home of Lake Charles, La. Visitation is from 8am-9:45am in the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care, especially, Laurelle, Julie, Liz, Doty and Natalie. Thanks also to Dr. Susan Jones and staff.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Charles, La. under the direction of Combre''s funeral home of Lake Charles, La. Visitation is from 8am-9:45am in the funeral home.
