Levander Hursey, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 5:00 PM at Winn Parish Medical Center, Winnfield, Louisiana. Levander Hursey, Jr. was born on April 13, 1936 in Lake Charles, LA to the late Levander, Hursey, Sr. and Mary Magdaline Lezine Hursey. He lived in Lake Charles, LA all of his natural life and was united in Holy Matrimony to Elizabeth Marie Sylvester, Hursey on April 18, 1959. From this union, four children were born.

Levander was a devout member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church since his birth, and a student of Sacred Heart Catholic School. He was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School. Lee, as he was so respectfully known by his family and friends, was a retired Longshoreman with the Lake Charles StevedoresÐLocal Branch 1349 of the International LongshoremanÐs AssociationÐHouston Hub. He served faithfully for 35 years in several capacitiesÐBookkeeper, Manager, and Foreman.

Levander leaves to cherish his memory, his loyal, devoted and faithful wife of 53 yearsÐElizabeth Marie Sylvester Hursey and four children: Levander Hursey, III of Lake Charles, LA; Angela Elizabeth Hursey of Lake Charles, LA (Avia Addison (Fedric) Vashti, Kailani Yeshua and Khashif Hursey of Lake Charles, LA, Katrina Broussard of Abbeville, LA); Annette Marie Hursey of Houston, TX (Taylar Simon of Houston, TX and Winston Simon of Katy, TX); Mary Lynn Hursey Jones (Keith) of Lincoln, NE (EÐMari and EÐMante Jones of Houston, TX and EÐMyah Jones of Lincoln, NE), and his honorary adopted son and daughterÐDavid and Lisa Antoine. His two surviving sisters – Mae Bell Hursey Harvey of Chicago, IL and Pearl Hursey Leger of Lake Charles, LA, and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Father Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
