Lionel John Daniel was born on February 12, 1940 in Vinton, Louisiana. He was the ninth child of twelve children born to Marshall Daniel, Sr and Octavia Thierry Daniel. He quietly transitioned from his earthly home on Sunday, September 23, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was reared in a Christian home and was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
He attended Sacred Heart and was a graduate of Washington High School. He attended McNeese State University and Delta School of Business. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He retired from Grace Davison with 38 years of dedicated service.
Lionel was very active in his community and church. He was a member of Vernon W. Joseph Grand Assembly #22, Fourth Degree Knights of Peter Claver, IHM Council #141, KPC Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and a 50+ year member of IHM Church. He was an usher, member of the Holy Name Society and former parish council member.
He lived each day grateful for God's blessings. He never took a moment for granted and exhibited a singular devotion towards his wife, daughter and family. His Godly spirit and remarkable strength of character left their mark on those fortunate enough to come into his life. His undying positivity was contagious.
Lionel spent his life giving back not only to his church and community, but most of all to his family and friends. "Service to others" was his motto.
After retirement he enjoyed serving lunch at Abraham's Tent, installing AC units for the elderly, and serving as "Kitchen Boss" for the Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner benefitting the community. He served as an Adult Altar Server for funerals at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Lionel was recipient of the Silver Medal of Merit and the Cartegena Award. He was promoted to Knight Commander, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Octavia Daniel; siblings, Sylvester, Marshall, Alma Georgia, Anthony, Julian and Jerome Daniel.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Jenkins Daniel; daughter Andrea Daniel Baham; son-in-law, Melvin J. Baham, Jr; and his "love", granddaughter, Alexis Camille. One sister, Mary F. England of Houston, Texas; four brothers, H. Michael Daniel (Joyce Ann) of Galveston, Texas, Phillip Daniel (Rose Ann) of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Patrick Daniel (Betty) and Harold Daniel both of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister-in-laws, Ada Bell Daniel of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Geraline T. Daniel of Liberty, Texas, and Delores Jenkins Tutson of Daly City, California; daughter-in-heart, Helene Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
