IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois Bernice
Duplechain
August 2, 1943 – November 12, 2020
Lois Bernice Samuel-Duplechain was born on August 2, 1943 to Elder William Henry Samuel, Sr.,
and Mrs. Mary M. Johnson-Samuel, in Leesville, Louisiana. She was the first granddaughter of her maternal grandparents and became the apple of her grandfather's eyes and he spoiled her at every opportunity.
She was the second of eight children born into the Samuel family. Although her brother, Charles, was older, Lois was allowed to enter first grade two years early because he would not go to school without her. When the family moved to Lake Charles, they attended First Ward Elementary School together and graduated from W. O. Boston High School together in 1961.
In July 1963, Lois married Joseph Duplechain. To this union three sons were born: Roderic, Bryan and Michael.
She was a very active member of Saints Cathedral Church of God in Christ until her health failed in July 2015. She served in hospitality, choir member, and Deaconess.
Lois was outgoing, caring and kind. She kept a pristine home and a personal appearance to match. She loved to cook and she could really make hot tamales second to none. She loved her family unselfishly and always strove to provide the best.
Lois departed this life on Wednesday, November 12, 2020, at 12:00 noon. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons—Roderic of Lake Charles, Bryan of New Orleans and Michael (Holly) of Annapolis, Maryland; her two remaining siblings—Martha Faye Samuel and John Samuel, Sr. of Lake Charles; five grandchildren—Grant, Gabrielle, August, Ming and Camille; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Her husband—Joseph Duplechain; mother and father—William and Mary Samuel; siblings—Charles, Bobby, Robert James, James and Phyllis; and "sister" aunts—Ruth Nance and Carrie King; all preceded her in death.
