DeQuincy – Lorraine Smith Clark, 67 was called home on January 18, 2012.
Deaconess Lorraine Smith Clark was born to the union of Louella Joshua and Rufus Smith in New Orleans on January 31, 1944. When her mother passed she was taken in at the age of 8 by her loving aunt and uncle, Lillie Joshua Marsland and MD Marsland of DeQuincy. She was a lifelong member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church. While her strength and health permitted, she was a member of the usher department, deaconess and missionary board.
She attended Grand Avenue School as a student and later was an educator of English and Home Ec at the same school. Integration brought about the change of school. She then taught Home Ec and English at DeQuincy High School. She attended Grambling College where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Texas Southern and McNeese for advanced studies. When she was at Grambling she met her true love, Ira Clark. They were married on February 20, 1965. To this union were 3 children.
Lorraine is survived by one son, Ira W.L. (Karmecia) Clark, Jr., 2 daughters; Tiffany Clark (Ryon) Lee and Viveca Clark (Roy) Green; one sister, Joan Arnetta Eulian, 11 grandchildren and 1 great granchild; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, in Greater Mt. Zion Church in DeQuincy. The Rev. Marvin Durgan will officiate. Buriall will be in Paradise Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 9:30 Saturday in the church.
