Louis Guidry, Jr., 86 of Lake Charles, LA transitioned to his eternal home on September 21, 2016 at home. Louis was a native of Church Point, LA and later moved to Lake Charles where he practiced law over 50 years. Louis was the 1st African American City Prosecutor for the City of Lake Charles. In the legal community he was known to be the model of professionalism. Louis was a military retiree serving his country in the United States Army, 173rd Army Band in 1948. He was stationed at "Fort Dix, New Jersey when he met and later married his wife of 64 years Bernice Marie Harris of Clarksdale, Mississippi who also served her country in the WAC Detachment B, 1262nd A.S.U. at Fort Dix. On his return home from the military he became an activist in the civil rights movement. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing his tenor saxophone and often had jazz sessions with different jazz bands. In the earlier years of his music career, and he and his brother "Sticks" Herman Guidry along with others frequently played music at the Moulin Rouge in Lake Charles.
His survivors include his wife Bernice Harris Guidry, his children, Attorney Donald Louis Guidry, (Lake Charles) Attorney Désirée (Lloyd) Guidry Dangerfield (Lafayette), Nathaniel "Nate" Guidry (Pittsburg, PA), Rachel (Stephen) Guidry Gordon (Queens, NY) and Earon Harris (Sierra Vista, Arizona). His brother, Herman (Ruby) Guidry ( Lake Charles); 6 grandchildren, Donald Louis Guidry, Jr, Erica (Ron) Warner, David Michael Guidry, Aaron Michael Dangerfield, Jacquelyn Chetram and Stephanie Gordon; 2 great grandchildren Natalie and Noah Warner and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Elizabeth "Eliza", his grandson Daniel Hawthorne Guidry and his siblings Gustavia Chachere Batiste, Loretta Chachere Duplechain, Lucius Chachere, Rena Chachere King, Louisiana "Cat" Chachere Williams and Geraldine Guidry Bossier.

Service date: September 24, 2016
Visitation services will be Saturday September 24, 2016 from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. in Combre Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be SaturdaySeptember 24, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. in Combre Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
