IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lovenia Pete
Simon
August 30, 1926 – September 6, 2015
Lovenia Pete Simon was born the youngest of twelve siblings to the late Madison Pete Sr. and Alice Freeman Pete on August 30, 1926 in Ville Platte, Louisiana. After a lengthy illness, on Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2015, an angel of the Lord stepped into our mother''s room at a local nursing Facility and took his beloved daughter home as a reward for a life well lived in Him.
On June 14, 1942, Lovenia was baptized by the late Rev. E. D. Booth of Zion Travelers Baptist Church, Iowa, Louisiana. Here is where her love for serving others became her passion. On Sunday, June 28, 1942, she became a member of the Zion Travelers Baptist Church Ushers Ministry. She was a true doorkeeper in the house of God. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Rhines Simon Sr. on December 1, 1945. To this union, three children were born, Rhines Jr., Mary, and Angelia. Lovenia moved her membership to Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. D. J. Jones. She served faithfully as an Usher for 70 years. Lovenia was the proud owner of Prater Street Cleaners from 1960 - 1973. She and her husband owned L&R Groceries Inc. from 1975 - 1994. Lovenia was a member of the Queen of the South Chapter No. 14, Order of Eastern Stars, Lake Charles, LA. Her zeal for serving others was not only seen in her church, but felt through her family. Her giving, loving and selfless nature was the driving force to her living.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Rhines (Ethel) Simon Jr. of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two daughters, Mary L. (Gregory) Cotlong of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Angelia Faye Simon of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sisters, Eula Dugar and Elizabeth Orphey both of Lake Charles, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Anthony G. Simon, Annette (Nette) Simon, Brandi T. Darby, Ryan L. (LaDonna) Simon, and Merrill L. Simon; seven great grandchildren, Brianna Parker, Branden Drawhorn, Aidan Simon, Leah Orphey, Nathan Gray, Ryan Simon Jr. and Ethan Simon; two Godchildren, Pertnan Green and Henry Simon; a host of nieces, nephews relatives and other friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rhines Simon Sr.; seven brothers, Austin, August, Camel, Skelton, Freddie, Madison Jr., and Reese (Jack) Pete; two sisters, Camille Pete and Alice Pete Williams.
