Obituary

Home-going celebration for the life of Mae Ruth Hagger Johnson who was the third child of the late Leroy Hagger and Lela Gray Hagger. She was born on July 16th, 1932 in Lake Charles and departed life for a spiritual domain on November 25th, 2020 in Seattle, Washington.

Mae Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Ezra King of the New Emmanuel Baptist church where she remained a faithful member.

Mae Ruth attended the public schools for Lake Charles and served as a pianist during her high school days for New Emmanuel. Mae Ruth graduated in the first graduating class of W.O. Boston High School in 1950 and was valedictorian of her class. She attended Wiley College of Marshall, Texas and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1954.
Upon her return to Lake Charles she taught mathematics for 10 years at Washington high school and 20 years at LaGrange. Senior High school. Mae Ruth attended McNeese State university and graduated with a Masters degree in mathematics in 1964. November 20, 1955, Mae Ruth and Edward M. Johnson were married in Lake Charles. Mae Ruth continued to work in the church where she served several years as Youth Director and Chairperson of the Church Anniversary where she was honored as a fifty plus years member of New Emanuel Baptist church. She served many
years as Director of Vacation Bible school . While in Lake Charles, Mae Ruth was a charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and served the chapter in many official capacities

She and her husband, Edward loved to vacation with their children and show photos of places to family and friends. Photography was a passionate hobby of Mae Ruth. Mae Ruth was an active member of the Calcasieu Teachers Association and the Louisiana Teachers Association.

After the death of her husband, Edward she moved to Indianapolis, IN to live with her son Alan and later to Seattle, WA to live with her daughter Theryl.

To the union of Mae Ruth and Edward were born two sons, Glenn and Alan and one daughter Theryl. Mae Ruth reared a stepson, Donald Lavell and a niece, Soon Ja.

Preceded in death are her parents Leroy and Lela Hagger, sisters, Rosa Bea Lewis and Roy Lee McKinley and brothers, Morris and Ernest Hagger, husband, Edward Marshall Johnson and her son Glenn Edward Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one sister, Gloria Dean Johnson of Lake Charles, LA. Also she leaves to cherish her memories is one stepson, Donald Lavell (Audrey) Johnson of Milwaukee, WI and daughter Theryl Angela (Nia) of Seattle, WA and son Alan Marshall (Maritza) of Indianapolis, IN, niece Soon Ja, (Ronnie) Williams of Baton Rouge, LA,
biological grandsons, Joshua Glenn of New York, Alan Oscar and Jalen Edward both of Indianapolis, IN and step grandchildren, Kim Williams, Darrice Roberson, Donald Johnson, Adrian Johnson and a host of great grandchildren of Milwaukee, WI.
