Maira Modesta Godwin Richard of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away September
4th, 2022. She was 65 years of age. Maira was born in Guantánamo, Cuba on January
12th,1957 to the late Carmen Miclin Godwin and Charles Godwin. She moved from
Cuba to the US, Evanston, Illinois and later became a resident of Lake Charles,
Louisiana in 1980.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed
attending mass at Saint Henry Catholic Church. Maira was a gifted care giver, having
worked as a nurse aide and later working for the Calcasieu Parish School Board, caring
for special needs students. She also gave care to members of her own Lake Charles
family.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Michael Joseph Richard, five sisters, Carmen Dominguez, Natividad Godwin, Yasnai Torres, Adriana Godwin-Bustamante and Lizette Dixon, two brothers, Pedro Godwin and Robert Godwin, her foster mother, Antoinette Norris, two foster sisters, Mary Hughes and Maria Jenkins, foster brother, David Norris Jr., a host of nieces and nephews, her dearest friend, Mary Antoine and her cherished dog companion, Angel.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Carmen Godwin, brother
Carlos, and foster father David Norris Sr.
