IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret
Mason
February 17, 1952 – November 24, 2023
Margaret Anne was delivered to the care and safe keeping of Weldon and Clora Vital Mason in Sacramento, California. He appointed her arrival time as Sunday morning, February 17, 1952, as her parents prepared to attend Sunday School. Her mother often told others of hearing church bells ringing when she arrived at the hospital.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and was baptized by the late Rev. V.E. Washington at New Sunlight Baptist Church. Family circumstances resulted in frequent moves, thus Margaret also held very active memberships at Century Chapel CME Church (formerly, Bircher Temple CME Church) and Emanuel CME Church, all in Sacramento.
She attended Oak Ridge Elementary, California Junior High and Peter Lassen Junior High in Sacramento, California and Second Ward Colored School and W.O. Boston High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A 1970 graduate of W.O. Boston, Margaret briefly attended McNeese State University (then McNeese College) before returning to Sacramento and accepting employment with the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. After 18 years of employment, she retired form her position as a as a telephone operator. During this time, she met Jodie Weatherall. They were blessed with the birth of one child, Brandi Rene.
With life changes and her daughter graduated from high school Margaret returned to Lake Charles where she gained employment as the secretary at New Sunlight. Not one to remain idle, she worked as a slot attendant at L'Auberge Casino. She was later employed part-time as a Wal-Mart Associate, and a Station Agent for Alliance Properties at the Amtrak Train Station.
Having a heart for people and helping others Margaret was an active member of several community auxiliaries including the VFW, Zeta Amicae and the American Legion. Seeking to continue her commitment to Christian service, she joined Christian Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Edward J. Alexander, Jr. It was there, her faith grew even more steadfast. She found joy in attending Women's Ministry activities and "Hour of Power" Bible study. Her greatest joy, however was that of being a doorkeeper! She joyfully served on the church Senior Usher Board and faithfully greeted or seated worshippers during services. Margaret had a serving heart and was always available to lend a helping hand.
As she began to face health challenges, she relocated to Houston, to reside with her daughter and grandchildren. She cherished the time spent with them and relayed stories of their activities and achievements. She loved them dearly!
Margaret never forgot the values of her Christian upbringing and relied heavily on her faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jodie Weatherall, and brother-in-law, Thomas K. White, Sr.
Those blessed to carry her memory and continue her legacy of faith include her devoted daughter, Brandi Rene Weatherall; her beloved grandchildren, Terra Morris, Langston Morris and Kendalynn Jones, all of Houston, Texas. Her sister, Christiana Mason White and niece, Carolynn N. White both of Lake Charles; nephews, Thomas K. White, Jr. (Godson), and Michael J. White both of Houston, Texas; God-sister, Deborah Watson of Sacramento, California; GodDaughter, Kashan Parker-Bradford; Takeda Parker- Bradford both of Houston, Texas; her adopted families, the Watson family of Sacramento, California and the Washington family of Lake Charles; best friend and classmate, Juanita Lewis, of Houston, Texas; aunts; host of cousins; and her lifelong sweetheart, Owen Cahee of Lake Charles.
