Obituary

We celebrate the life of Mrs. Margaret Theresa Walrond who transitioned on November 19, 2013. Margaret was born to Ella and Arthur Broussard on May 17, 1923 in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she spent the majority of her life. She met and married the late George L.A. Walrond, Sr. and they were married for over forty years.

Their marriage was blessed with three children, Margaret Theresa Pickens-Pete of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Ella Marie Walrond, who passed away at an early age and George L.A. Walrond, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee. She had a special relationship with her daughter-in-law Mary "Mickey" Walrond and son-in-law Donald Pete. She very much loved her four grandsons James Zell Pickens of Beaumont, Texas; Jordan Avery Pickens and Tillman Joseph Walrond of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Leslie "Les" Dale Walrond of Nashville, Tennessee and great grandson Jerrin Zander Pickens of Atlanta, Georgia. She was excited to recently learn that Les and his wife Kesha are expecting her second great grandchild.

Margaret had one brother, James Wesley Broussard, and one sister Mary Ellen Ware, both who preceded her in death.

Other very special family members in her life include Mary Evelyn Ware Samuel, niece of Houston, Texas; nephew and Godchild Dorson William "DW" Purdy of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Percy A. Ware, brother-in-law of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Williemae Broussard, sister-in-law of Vallejo, California; Gloria Fitzgerald, cousin of Houston, Texas; Alvin Broussard, cousin of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Williemae Joseph, cousin-in-law of Houston, Texas; Betty Lou and George Madison, cousins of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Signora Tinsley, cousin of Houston, Texas. Other special friends and relationships were Al and Tim Purdy of Lake Charles and close friends Marie LePaul and Alex and Debra Landry of Lake Charles and Zelma Perkins of Atlanta, Georgia.

Margaret left Lake Charles and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to live with her daughter, Theresa, in 1999. She always loved to cook, and she did it well! Her other past time was her TV and keeping up with "her stories." She relied on her scriptures and would often challenge her grandsons to always "be patient" and always "remain calm". Hebrews 13:1 Let Brotherly love continue''. Most of us wonder what will be written about us when it is our time to make this journey and I am sure Margaret would be pleased to know that she is simply remembered as "a very good person." She is loved and will be greatly missed.
