IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Jenkins
Jr.
August 25, 1934 – September 16, 2018
Mark Jenkins, 84, slipped into the arms of Jesus on September 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born on August 25, 1934 in Sunset, Louisiana to the late Mark Jenkins, Sr. and Ezolia Thomas Jenkins.
Mark lived in Opelousas for many years. As a provider and protector of his family, he worked in various jobs and locations before making Lake Charles, Louisiana his home. Mark worked at the Port of Lake Charles as a longshoreman and retired after working 40 years. He was the financial secretary for ILA Local 2047 for many years.
Mark was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Darnell Arbo Jenkins and to this union two children were born.
Mark was affectionately known to family and friends as "June". He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and collector of guns, coins, and cans. He was a kind and generous father, brother and friend. He was also a stern enforcer of Christian morals and treating people right. He was a makeshift engineer making a little bit of everything. Although he had retired, he was never bored, always having something to do. He was babysitter to all of his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, and yes, they loved him as well. He enjoyed family gatherings and was always cooking when family got together. He was a very hospitable person. One thing he told his children and grandchildren was to get an education and achieve to do better in life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Ezolia Jenkins, Sr; wife, Darnell Jenkins; four brothers, Riseman, Rossman, Freddie, and James Jenkins.
His loving memories will live on in the hearts of his daughter, Kimberly (Quentin) Lewis, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; son, Mark Julian Jenkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sisters, Mary (Willie) Williams of New Orleans, Louisiana, Lois Dorn of Opelousas, Louisiana; four brothers, Preston Jenkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Ervin Jenkins, Paul Jenkins, and Herbert (Irma) Jenkins all of Opelousas, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Kierston, Kiara, Lyric, Marissa, Kaitlin, Lauren, Devin; two great grandchildren, Kendyl and Evan; Sister-in-law, Betty Jenkins of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
