IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Viola
Cross
October 24, 1943 – April 17, 2022
Mary Viola Cross died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at a local hospital.
Mary "Viola" Cross was born in Church Point, Louisiana on October 24, 1943 to Clarence Johnson and Leotha Judge. Viola was the baby of the bunch along with her 4 siblings. When Mary was just a baby her Mother married Alfred Douglas who raised her and her siblings as his own children. They eventually moved to Lake Charles, La as their permanent place of living. Mary attended Washington High where she was an active member in the band as a Majorette which she prided herself on being the best at what she did :-).
Soon after graduating high school Mary met the Love of her Life Sidney. After much courtship Sidney and Mary were married on June 6, 1964; and thru this union three beautiful children were born.
Mary, "Viola" as many called her spent her early years working and caring for others as a CNA working at places like Grand Cove, Rest Heaven, and Martin De Porres. She also worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Thrifty Way Drug Store for over 10 years. And in her later years you can catch her serving up a cocktail!! Mary was known for her Bigger Than Life Attitude and Personality. She loved to dance and definitely enjoyed a Good Time. She loved People and enjoyed talking and converting with everyone she encountered. Her kids often joked and asked their Mom how many nieces and nephews do you have we don't know about; because people were always drawn to her and loved being in her company. She was "Ma", Aunt Viola, Nanny, Ms. V, Mrs. Cross to MANY!!! One thing for sure, is that Viola lived her life to the fullest with no regrets. The one thing she was most proud of was her 3 children. She made sure to tell everyone about her children and their children and how very proud she was of them. And anytime they were around she made sure to introduce them to her friends over and over again :-) Mary was Outspoken and Fearless. She was truly one of a Kind who will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her Parents; Her Loving Husband, Sidney Cross Jr.; Sister, Ruby King; Brothers, Curley Johnson, John Johnson, and Clarence Johnson. Goddaughters , Angela LeDay and Precious King.
She leaves to cherish her memory Her Awesome Son (as she would call him) Earl Cross of Lake Charles, La who was with her every step of the way. Her "Baby Boy" as she would say Eric (Tamara) Cross of Pearland, TX and Her Loving Daughter "Her World" Samantha Cross-Wells (Eric) of Fresno, TX. Seven Grandchildren, Jordan Simmons, Eric Cross Jr. (CJ), Eric Wells Jr. (Dougie), Jaden Cross, Sydnei Cross, Logan Cross, and Nicholas Wells. And a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
