Mary Geraldine "Jerry" Broussard Doucet, 76, was born on Sept. 5, 1938, to the late Wilfred Broussard Sr. and the late Augustine SampaBroussard. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Peter Calvin Doucet on Dec. 30, 1959. To this union five children were born. Three preceded her in death, including Jerome "Totsy" Doucet; her parents; one sister, Gustavia Edwards; and one brother, Obrey Broussard.

Mrs. Doucet was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for 59 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Court #141, Christian Mothers and served on the Mardi Gras Committee where she served and reigned as Parish Queen. Jerry was known for her dedication, generosity and loving spirit.

Jerry will forever be loved and remembered by her devoted and loving husband, Peter C. Doucet; two daughters, Romona (Michael) Eddie, Sherwon (Winston) Edwards, both of Lake Charles, La.; six brothers, Joseph Broussard of Orlando, Calif., John Wilfred Jr., Donald and Darrell Broussard, all of Lake Charles, La., Gerald and Ronald Broussard of Lafayette, La.; two sisters, Joyce Simien and Betty Chavis of Lake Charles, La.; best friend and one of a kind sister-in-law, Dolores (Henry) Hicks; six grandkids, Jamar, Marcus, Meyosha, Whitney, Monasha, Winston; and five great-grandkids; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Jerry touched the lives of many people with her many gifts and talents. To many of the children that she babysat, she was known as "Nana." Throughout the city she was known for her delicious dinners and her famous popcorn balls.

Service date: December 19, 2014

Her funeral will be on Friday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8-10:40 a.m. Friday morning in Combre Funeral Home.
