Obituary

On June 17, 1912 Sis. Mary Lewis Jackson was born in Washington, Louisiana to the late Randle and Alice Lewis.  She accepted Christ at an early age at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Port Barre, Louisiana.  She was a happy, loving, and giving child. Upon moving to Lake Charles she united with the Old Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. N. P. Jones and continued to be a faithful member under Dr. M. C. Guillory's leadership.  She remained a dedicated member and attended services regularly until her health prevented regular attendance.  Sis. Mary Jackson was an active participant in Sunday School. She was a devoted Deaconess; chairman of Pastor's Aide Committee; and Annual Church Tea participant.  She was often found serving in the church kitchen during church events.  She enjoyed baking; and became known for her lemon meringue pies, lemon tarts, and famous chocolate, pecan and peanut candies.

Sis. Mary Jackson worked as a domestic until she retired. She was married to the late Manuel Jackson and to this union one child was born.  Sis. Jackson remained an example of Christian womanhood.  She was devoted to the Kingdom's cause and her interest in the church's mission never diminished.

On Tuesday, February 26, 2013, after 100 years, a divine appointment was fulfilled.  The gates of heaven opened wide and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ greeted her and said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done!"  Though she is now in the Master's care, she will be greatly missed. Sis. Jackson is preceded in death by her parents, Randle and Alice Lewis; husband, Manuel Jackson; siblings, Fannie Anderson, Salome Biggers, Josephine Lewis, and Yancy Lewis; daughter, Beaulah Weldon; and grandson, Billy Weldon.
