Mary Agatha "Aggie" LeDoux Sonnier was born on July 12, 1932 in Lake Charles, La. She married the love of her life, Herman Sonnier Jr., on July 12, 1969.They had a blissful marriage of 42 years and had two beautiful children named Yvette Therese Sonnier andLynette Sonnier Victor.An early advocate for education, Aggie graduated high school from SacredHeartHigh School on June 4, 1950 in Lake Charles, La. She attended XavierUniversityfrom 1951-54 then transferred to Texas Southern University and graduatedwith aBachelor of Science in Home Economics Education-Concentration in Clothing andTextiles on Aug. 26, 1956 in Houston, Texas. She then graduated fromMcNeese State College with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and aminor in Social Studies on May 23, 1960, in Lake Charles, La. It wasthere, that she became a certified teacher. Aggie studied for three weeksat Northwestern University in the summer of 1980. She was awarded acertificate for continuing education in Food Service Management inNatchitoches, La. Aggie worked as an Assistant Buyer for B. Altman''s & Co.in New York, N.Y., fortwo years 1956 and 1957, and as a Home Economist for the Gulf AssistanceProgramin Lake Charles, La., for two years. She also worked for the Calcasieu ParishSchool Board. She worked for Sacred Heart from 1960-62, Charles Drew from1962-67, Washington High School in 1967, Maplewood Junior High from1971-72, Alfred M.Barbe High School from 1972-73, and Lake Charles HighSchool from 1975-77. Sheworked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a Food Service CafeteriaManagerat D.A. Combre Elementary from 1977 until retirement on May 28, 1993.
Aggie was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and numerousorganizations which include: The Altar Society, Ladies Charity BenevolentSociety, St. Joseph Society, and Third Degree Saint Rita Court #31 LadiesAuxiliary to the Knights of Peter Claver for 50+ years. She was also amember of the Fourth DegreeLady of Grace.
Aggie leaves to mourn two daughters, Yvette Therse Sonnier of Beaumont,Texas,and Lynette Sonnier Victor of Austin, Texas; one sister, Veronica LeDouxMitchell of St. Albans, N.Y.; three brothers, Col Chaplin Louis VerlinLeDoux, Retired U.S.Air Force, Reverend Jerome G. LeDoux, SVD of Bay SaintLouis, Miss., and Nathanial(Hilda) LeDoux of Henderson, Nev.; four nieces,Marlene Mitchell Smith, Gail Mitchell, Eden Duncan-Smith and ChantalLeDoux; three nephews, Philip (Lisa)LeDoux, Gregory (Nicole) Smith andJulian LeDoux; five grandsons, Joseph Todd Johnson III of Houston, Texas,Jaron Isaiah Jennings and Elijah Armond Sonnier of Beaumont, Texas,Zachary McCrea Victor II and Zacquez Manyaé Victor of Austin,Texas; onegranddaughter, Zondra Marnaé Victor of Houston, Texas; and a host ofrelatives, friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by herparents, Peter Louis LeDoux, Mary Gastonia PetrieLeDoux; and her husband, Herman Sonnier Jr.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: July 9, 2016
Visitation service will be Saturday July 9, 2016 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:40 A.M. in Combre Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday July 9, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
