Urabell Mary Thomas was called to her eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021, while evacuated in Richmond, Texas due to Hurricane Laura.  She was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana to John and Lorenza Narcisse Thomas.  She was the sixth of twelve children.

Urabell was baptized at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  She attended elementary school and later earned her high school diploma from Sacred Heart.  She moved to Houston, Texas and furthered her studies to become a teacher.  She taught business education for Houston Independent School District until her retirement.  Her professionalism and dedication to education made her an outstanding teacher and role model for her students.

Urabell Mary Thomas was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church in Houston, Texas for more than 60 years. She attended mass weekly until her health no longer permitted her to do so.   She believed in the power of prayer and prayed the rosary daily.  She was a member of KPC Ladies Auxiliary Council and Court #159.  Her commitment to service was evidenced as she served on the Parish Committee, Bazaar Committee, the Finance Council, as Minister of the Eucharist, bookkeeper, and lector. She loved to travel and often traveled with her church family on mission and church sponsored trips.  She was also a member of St. Mary's Seniors-in-Action and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with other believers.  She regularly volunteered at many different places throughout Houston, Texas which she said was her Christian calling.  She received numerous awards and recognition for her dedication to community service.

Urabell's classy and sassy presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was truly a diva at 95 years old.  She leaves to cherish her memories her great niece and caregiver Marlene Johnson-Marks, close nephews Gregory Johnson, Kenneth Brown, and Kerry Brown, her "adopted" son Kenneth Jenkins, her church family, dear friends, many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Urabell Mary Thomas was preceded in death by both parents, and by all siblings:  Wycliff Thomas, Mildred Mills, Willie Thomas, Alberta Thomas, Irving Thomas, Gladys Caves, Johnnie Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Barbara Thomas, Anthony Thomas, and James Thomas.
