Mary Ann Weldon Boyd was born September 29, 1949 to Joyce Reed and Paul Henderson. She graduated from W. O. Boston High School before earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification. She began her career at Kitty Daycare Center, where she lovingly cared for children. She later dedicated many years of faithful service to Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, where she remained until her retirement. Following retirement, Mary Ann became affectionately known throughout her neighborhood as the “Candy Lady”. Her generosity and loving spirit brought joy to countless children and neighbors, always greeting them with a smile and a sweet treat.

Mary Ann was a gifted and talented seamstress, well known throughout the Lake Charles community for her exceptional sewing skills. She took great pride in creating and altering garments for family, friends, and members of the community. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail reflected the love and care she poured into everything she did. She also found a great joy in gardening and caring for her flowers and plants. She loved watching thing grow and appreciated the beauty of God’s creation.

Mary Ann was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, and loved attending worship services, singing in the choir, participating in the Mission Ministry and studying God’s Word. Her faith remained the foundation of her life, and she never allowed life’s challenges to shake her trust in God.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her strength, perseverance, compassion, and unwavering love for her family. She had a caring heart, a giving spirit, and a quiet determination that inspired everyone blessed to know her. Her legacy of faith kindness, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of those she love.

Mary Ann Weldon Boyd peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, hard work, and service to others. Her life was a testament to God’s grace, and she touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ervin Andrew Boyd; her father, Paul Henderson and her sister, Wanda Smith.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving mother, Joyce Reed; her devoted children, Jason Weldon (Christina), Derrick Weldon, and Kathy Weldon Thomas (Rico Thomas); her loving siblings, David Weldon, Timothy Weldon Sr., Anthony Weldon (Constance), Peter Cling Weldon (Willie Mae Weldon), and Janell Guillory; grandchildren, Jaden Harris, Brennan Weldon, Jeremie Hall, Nichols Clark, Raymon Weldon, Takiyah Stevens, and Jasmine Clark; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who will forever cherish her love and guidance; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
