Obituary

Maudry Mae Moore Marshall was born on September 7, 1936 in Iowa, Louisiana to the late Willie Moore, Sr. and Ruth Reed Moore. She departed this life on April 9, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

A graduate of Jeff Davis High School in Jennings, Louisiana, Maudry was a career early childhood educator. After over 40 years, she retired from Calcasieu Parish HeadStart where she was the first teacher for many in the Iowa community as the Director of Tom & Jerry HeadStart Center. She was instrumental in the success of the preschool program which impacted the lives of so many in Iowa. During the summer months, she continued her work with children as the Director of Vacation Bible School for over 30 years.

She was a lifelong dedicated member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many roles including Deaconess, Senior Choir President, Vacation Bible School Director, Church Treasurer, Sanctuary Choir, and Rebecca Circle. Known for her vocal talent, she willingly used her gift to serve the Lord.

Maudry was a compassionate person who was devoted to her family and actively involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives providing unwavering support at games, performances, and events. She was passionate about spending time with her family especially during the "Moore-Colbert Family Reunion" which she first organized in 1984.

A well-respected community leader, Maudry served as Iowa Youth Baseball League President, on JD Bank Board of Directors, and held leadership roles in the local Cub/Boys Scouts. Her "frozen cups" will always be remembered as a neighborhood favorite.

Loving memories will be cherished by her sons, Errol (Lisa) Marshall of Katy, TX, and Marlon (Shannon) Marshall of Pearland, TX; one brother, Kenneth (Amelia) Moore, Sr. of Temple Hills, MD; three sisters, Wilma Faye Charles, Frances Elaine Moore, and Gwendolyn (Carnell) Marable all of Iowa, LA; four grandchildren, Taylor Marshall of Iowa, LA, Jordan Marshall of Spring, TX, Torre Marshall of Lake Charles, LA, and Cameron Marshall of Pearland, TX; one great-grandchild, Jeyla Marshall of Iowa, LA; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Wallace Marshall, Jr; her parents; three brothers, Willie Moore, Jr, Lloyd Moore, and Floyd Moore; five sisters, Margaret Lute, Betty Granderson, Rose Charles, Katherine Perrodin, and Brenda Moore; and one Godchild, Jasmine Streams.
