IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maybell Leblanc
Marchand
November 25, 1922 – September 23, 2020
On Wednesday September 23, 2020, our sweet beautiful mother, Maybell Marchand, passed away
peacefully at the age of 97.
Maybell Leblanc Marchand was born on November 25, 1922 in Gillis, Louisiana to Alexson and Fabiola
Leblanc.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Willie Marchand, and from that union built a loving family of
eight children, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She lived in Lake Charles for 80
years until she moved to Chester, Virginia to be near her daughters.
During her employment at the Gulf Assistance Program, her inborn ability to understand and motivate
people allowed her to counsel others. She was devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake
Charles Louisiana and, for the last 19 years, St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia. Her
commitment to daily prayer and rosary inspired her to a life of service to others.
She was an active volunteer at Sacred Heart School, which all her kids attended. She enjoyed traveling
with her family, zydeco and jazz music and home projects. She loved family and friends – especially
babies and kids. Her heart and home were always open to welcome others. She was warm and
accepting of everyone and loved by everyone who got to know her. Her wonderful humor was only
surpassed by her generosity and hospitality.
Mrs. Marchand was preceded in death by her father and mother, her beloved husband Willie, sisters
(Alvola, Mildred and Margaret), and brothers (Morgan, Leo, Leroy, and Junius). She is survived by her
eight children: daughters Sandra (Junius) Solomon of New Jersey; Monica Marchand, Judy Marchand
Hampton, and Andrea (Macrland) Hawkins all of Virginia; sons Michael (Juanita) Marchand, Eric (Joyce)
Marchand, Gregory (Rosalind) Marchand, and Gerard (Tonta) Marchand, all of Texas; sixteen
grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She lived a life of love, laughter and kindness. Her compassion was the overriding force in her life of
caring for others. We thank God for the blessing of having Maybell with us for 97 years. God's love
definitely flowed thru her. Her beautiful heart and loving spirit will be greatly missed.
