Mertais Lee Heard was called home on Saturday April 27, 2013 in Sulphur, LA. She was born December 31, 1932 to the late Robert Singelton and Albertha Harper Palmer in DeRidder, LA.

She was a faithful and devoted member of Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age by the late Rev Andrew Douglas.

She worked as a cook for more then 35 yrs and later was employed at Wal-Mart Super Center as a door greeter until she retired in 2001.

Mrs. Heard is preceded in death by her parents Robert Singelton and Albertha Harper Palmer. Stepfather Mr. Louis Palmer. Her children Dennis Heard, Willie James Maye and Earthell Colman. Grandchildren Willie T. Colman, DeWayne Jones and Aysa Maye.

Those left to cherish her memory are 4 children Sondria Celestine of Lake Charles, LA, Robert(Barbara) Maye of Lake Charles, LA, Vanessa(Ronald) Carrier of Sulphur, LA, Darrell Heard of Germany and special son in law Jack Colman. 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.

Service date: May 4, 2013

Funeral will be May 4th @ Combre Funeral Home in the chapel. Visitation 8 am - 11 am, Services to begin at 11 am.
