Brother Murphy Fontenot was born to Sister Elnora Fontenot Stevens.  He was a Mossville native and resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He was a proud 1964 graduate of Mossville High School.  He served his country in the United States Army from August 1967-1969 and was honorably discharged as an E-5.  His duties included Security Guard and Truck Driver during the Vietnam War. Being an only child he should not have been drafted but he served

He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Nellie "Sis" Comeaux, and to this union, his daughter Amanda Marie was born in 1966.

Six years later, he married the former Delores Charles Fontenot, and they were married for 43 years. Delores preceded him in death in March 2017. She was the apple of his eye. She affectionately called him 'Murph,' and he called her 'Mopsie,'

He is survived by his one and only loving daughter Amanda Fontenot Johnson, son in love Coach Tony Johnson who was also his best friend for the past 32 years. Two devoted grandchildren, Morgan Nell Johnson and Gabriel Karrington Johnson.  His life wasn't complete without his great grand fur puppy Maxx Limon' Johnson, whom he cherished daily visits bringing him on joy rides around the city and watching the ducks at the Civic Center.  He was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Tezeno.

He retired 19 years ago at the age of 62 from the Petro Chemical Industry.  He worked at Arcadian Corporation, Olin Corporation and PPG Industries respectively.   He worked for TL James Construction, Westlake, LA as a laborer who helped build the I-10 bridge and as a Brick Layer's Helper as his first job out of high school.

Brother Murphy could often be seen working in the yard at his mother's house in Mossville, His house on Pine Street, around the beauty shop, his home on Eva Lane, Amanda's house, Mount Olive on Simmons Street and the current location on Enterprise.  He was always WORKING.  And he never stopped.

His work on earth is done and now he's at his heavenly home with all of his loved ones. Well done my good and faithful servant, well done.  Come and take your rest.
