Nathan Demone Syas, 43, affectionately known as "Nate", was born on February 4, 1976 to Rosa Syas and Horace J. Lewis, Sr. He was baptized in the Baptist faith at Christian Batptist Church an early age. He was reared by his paternal grandparents, the late Irving J. and Evelyn M. Lewis.
His grandparents, who were devoted Catholics began raising Nathan in the Catholic faith. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. Then, later attended school in the Calcasieu Parish School System.
Nathan worked in the construction field until he became ill in 2005. His battle with diabetes resulted in him becoming an amputee at the age of 29. Though he experienced some health challenges he still enjoyed playing dominoes, watching sports, and playing his music. His peers called him "DJ Nate".
On November 21, 2019, God saw that he was tired and worn. His physical body could not go on. God took his hand and carried him away to take his rest.
Nathan was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandmother, Aleta Dumas, paternal grandparents, Irving and Evelyn Lewis, his maternal grandparents, Crawford and Alberta Syas, Jr., five uncles, Charles Lewis, Stevens Thomas, Albert Gisendainer, Douglas Syas, and Derrick Syas, and one paternal aunt, Shelia Hopkins.
Nathan leaves memories of days gone by with his mother, Rosa Syas Levy and his father, Horace Lewis, Sr.; two sisters, Carrisca (Hillary) Ceasar; Crystal (Brandon Johnson) Lewis; five brothers, Horace Adamski, Horace (Christina) Lewis, Jr., Paul (Candace) Lewis, DeShawn Lewis; and Irving Lewis; five aunts, Ceola Syas Peters, Stella Syas Toussain, Angela Syas Cline, Sandra Syas, and Dr. Kathy Lewis-Thomas; four uncles, Joseph Syas, Anthony Syas, Ronald Lewis, Sr., and Tony Lewis; along with eight nieces, seven nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
