Nettie Agnelius Guillory Fontenot was born on September 30, 1928 to the late Macie Guillory and Ritha leDoux Guillory in Lawtell, Louisiana.
While most of her childhood was spent in the Lawtell and the Opelousas community, Nettie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Irvin J. Fontenot on May 25, 1947 in Opelousas, Louisiana and they later moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana and raised their family. Their holy union was blessed with three children, two sons Michael John Fontenot and Malcolm Joseph Fontenot, and one daughter, the late Rita F. Thibodeaux, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Nettie graduated from J.S. Clark High School in 1945. She then furthered her education and went on to receive a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and a Master''s Degree from McNeese State University. Her work experience includes 3 years of teaching in Evangeline Parish, 27 years of teaching in Calcasieu Parish, and 6 years in the Lake Charles Catholic Diocese as Principal of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
As a faithful and devoted servant of the church and Sacred Heart Community, she was also a member of the Holy Order of the Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Lady Grand Cross, Serra Club, Coordinator of the Lay Ministers of the church and the sick, and Director of the Bereavement Committee and Bereavement Support Group.
Those who carry on this legacy of love are her two sons Michael J. Fontenot and Malcolm J. Fontenot (Thelma); of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her brother Senator Elbert L. Guillory of Opelousas, Louisiana. Two sisters Dr. Charleta Guillory and Norweta Prevost both of Houston, Texas. Her sister-in-law Charity Bell Guillory of Opelousas, Louisiana. Her seven grandchildren Kim Poullard (James) of Louisville, Kentucky, Kenneth Fontenot, Laticia Fontenot, Harold Thibodeaux (Kandace), Malcolm Fontenot, Jr., Shelly Fontenot, and April Fontenot Thomas (McKinsey) all of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Along with 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, and friends.
Nettie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irvin J. Fontenot, daughter Rita F. Thibodeaux, brother Julius Guillory, and her stepmother Lucille Guillory.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: November 28, 2014
Funeral will be Friday 11.28.14 at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
