Obituary

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the  LORD upholdeth him with his hand.  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.  He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed .

Psalm 37: 23-26

Obituary

Noah Lewis, oldest son of six children of the late Easton & Sedonia Lewis was born March 23, 1925 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  This quiet and gentle soul entered into eternal rest on May 28, 2021 in New Orleans, LA.

Noah attended the Lake Charles public schools and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 as a Sea Bee in the Asiatic Pacific of World War II.

Noah joined Christian Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. W. C. Clark, and over the next 65+ years, he served as a Sunday School Board President, Deacon Board President and a Christian Education mentor to a host of young men and women.

He was preceded in death by his parents Easton and Sedonia Lews, his third son, Kenneth Darrell, sister Stella Lewis, brothers Easton, Frank, Donald Ray Lewis, two brother-in-laws Edward M. Johnson, Edward J. McKinley, two sister-in-laws Mae Ruth Johnson, and Roy Lee McKinley.

After serving in the Navy, he returned to Lake Charles, and went to work in 1947 at PPG Chemical Plant as a janitor and retired in 1983 as a Senior Lab Analyst.  He married Rosa Bea Hagger (died in 2014) on December 7, 1947, to which four children were born.  His children left to celebrate a life well lived are two sons Noah Wayne (Glendalyn) of New Orleans, LA and Bryan Aaron (Dorothy Ann) of Tallahassee, FL., and one daughter Schirrell Jacqueline (Pratt) of Houston, TX.

His love of travel was something we looked forward to, especially summer vacations. These travels took us to parts of America his family would share for a lifetime. Also, working with children at Christian Baptist Church teaching Sunday School was a great love to serve and be a beacon of light teaching God's word. He also served as Cub Scout Leader (Troop 42) for young Black boys.  His hobbies, tinkering with anything electronic or fixing and repairing kept him aware of modern technology.

While working at PPG Chemicals, Noah found time to attend night school at SOWELA Tech Community College and became one of the first Blacks to be licensed as a radio and television technician. Then he opened his own television repair shop, while still working at PPG. Oh, Noah also was a licensed auto mechanic.

He is survived by one sister Lillian Lewis "Sister Dear" of Lake Charles, LA and one sister-in-law Gloria Dean Johnson of Houston, TX.  He also leaves to cherish his memories, three grandchildren, Nedra (Lucius) Craig of Orangeburg, S.C., Noah Jason (Adero) Lewis of New Orleans, LA and "Puddin" Morgan A. Robinson of Houston, TX; two great grandchildren, Lucius-Joshua and Arden Craig of Orangeburg, S.C.

Noah also leaves to cherish his memories, a special niece, Debra Gail (Lunky Plunk) who was a treasure to him. Of course, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends will miss his stories, smile and wit.
