Otis Brooks, Jr was born on December 29, 1930 to the union of Otis Brooks, Sr and Luriene Ziegler Brooks in Bronx, New York.
He graduated from Morris High School in the Bronx, New York and Community College in Westchester, New York. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.
During his early years, he was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad and New York City Transit.
He was a faithful member of The Knights of St. Peter Claver, Council #168 and the Serra Club of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Those who carry on this legacy of love are his devoted wife Barbara Carter Brooks of Lake Charles, Louisiana. One stepson, Christopher (Dana) Booker, Sr, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three sons, Otis (Cynthia) Kevin Brooks, III of Peekskill, New York and Kerry (Judy) Brooks of Bronx, New York; Keefe (Debra) Darryl Brooks of Bronx, New York; and two daughters Karen L. Brooks of Baltimore, Maryland; and Kim (Michael) Brooks Cannon of Dallas, Georgia; and Irene Brooks, the mother of his children. His brother-in-law Stanford (Ruthie) J. Carter and sister-in-law Gwendolyn C. Washington (Leanidous Washington Jr, deceased). His brother-in-law, Paul (Corrine) Graves of Bronx, New York; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Brooks Graves and Edith Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Henry Masses or the Building Fund.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Service date: February 20, 2016
A memorial will be held from 6pm-9pm on Friday, February 19, at Combre Funeral Home. The Knights of St. Peter Claver ceremony will be at 7pm followed by a rosary. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 20, at St. Henry Catholic Church at 11:15 am and will be officiated by Rev. Msgr. Daniel A. Torres VG, Pastor. The burial will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
