Obituary

Phyllis Jean Leger Savoy was the sixth child of 15 to the late Jack Sr. and Elvie Leger, in Lawtell, LA. Phyllis was affectionately known to her family as "GG" and nieces and nephews as Aunt Phyllis or Nanny GG. Phyllis married the love of her life, Joseph M. Savoy ("Joe Sr."), 52 years ago on November 9, 1968. Although Phyllis was born in Lawtell, she and Joe lived and raised their family in Lake Charles, LA. They enjoyed many memories together, such as cooking, dancing zydeco, and spending time with family and friends. They were also loyal members of St. Henry's Catholic Church, where they worshipped and showed adoration for Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. After Joe Sr.'s death in 1999, Phyllis remained a faithful member of St. Henry's and had been a member for over 50 years. She worked for Calcasieu Parish School Board for 10 years. "GG" was known and praised for her delicious meals that she cooked for schools, church, family, and friends—warming the hearts and bellies of so many. Growing up with a big family under one roof, "GG" learned the true meaning of compassion and support from her parents and siblings. Phyllis truly devoted her life to her loved ones. Her unconditional love was deeply felt by her children and grandchildren who grew up in their family home. Phyllis' joyous energy and affectionate spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Kevin Savoy (Jennifer), Austin, TX; Joseph Savoy Jr., Lake Charles, LA; daughter Brandy Anderson, Lakes Charles, LA; grandchildren, Natalie Savoy, Chicago, IL; Genesis Savoy, Jasmine Fontenot, Braylon Francis, Armani Savoy, Reginae Anderson, and Bailie Anderson, all of Lake Charles, LA; and Neshelle Savoy, Austin, TX; brothers Joseph Leger, Glendale, GA; Farrel Glen Leger Sr., Morgan City, LA; sisters, Maudry Nell Simien (Manuell), Carolyn Leger Berry (Richard), of Opelousas, LA; Elvia Jones, Lake Charles, La; and Shirley Massey (John), Moss Point, MS; sisters-in-law, Rosa Mae Leger, Mary Savoy, Melinda Leger, Vergie Savoy, Catherine Offord, Bertha Williams, and Susan Savoy; brothers-in-law Paul Brown Sr., Robert Savoy, and Fred Savoy; one uncle, Earl Jackson Sr.; two aunts, Lorena Savoy and Vergie Jolivette; godchildren Samuel Brown and Tommy Jones Jr. She also leaves to share her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
