IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Priscilla Ann
Joseph
October 4, 1940 – November 11, 2018
Priscilla Malbrew Joseph of Lake Charles, Louisiana accepted God's loving hand while her daughter, Joclyn and
son-in-law, Daryl held her lovingly on Sunday, November 11,2018 - she was not alone.
Priscilla was born on October 4,1940 to Rosella and Nelson Malbrew in Chatainger, Louisiana. She was one of nine
children, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Priscilla, affectionately call "Granny" by her brothers and sisters, grew up singing in the church choir. Priscilla's
parents were sharecroppers and worked to provide a better life for their family. Her father became a painter and
when she was 10 years old, the family moved to Lake Charles. A family of faith they worshiped at Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church.
During Priscilla's teen years, she attended Washington High School, making many lifelong friends. Following her
older sisters, she converted to Catholicism and became a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She
was active in her church, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Christian Mothers.
At the tender age of 19, Priscilla married Morris 'Sunny' Joseph, Jr. Unto this union six children were born,
Morris, III, Deadra, Nelson, Craig, Pamela and Joclyn.
Priscilla was a working mother. After years of being an at home mom, she pursued her nurse's aide certification
from Sowela Technical College and worked at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for 10 years. Later she became a
teacher's aide and worked at Head Start and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Finally, returning as a stay at home mom to
spend more time with her children and thrived in supporting them in various activities.
As an involved parent, Priscilla supported various groups at church and at the schools where her children attended.
She supported IHM's School's PTO and the Catholic Youth Organization, Washington Marion High School Band and
Football Booster Clubs, as well as, the Marion High School Speech and Drama Club.
The family home served as "the neighborhood house" for her children's friends, as well as, for cousins visiting. Her
children's friends oftentimes called her "Miss 1". Her children shared their Mom with everyone. The door was always
open. It was a golden time and so many lifelong friendships were created there and continue today. She provided
loving advice and firm correction to all with a smile. She was loved by many.
Priscilla had strong passions about football and music. Her favorite teams included Steelers, Saints and LSU - she
would hesitate to take a call if she was watching a game. She loved music and it was often the backdrop for all
family gatherings.
As Priscilla moved into her senior years, she moved from the family home to a Senior Community, where she
continued to thrive and show care and love to others.
Priscilla loved her family. Keeping God first and instilling that direction and her children and grandchildren. She
was so very proud of each and everyone of them. There was never enough time spent with her grandchildren. Loved
talking with her sisters and cousins-marathon phone calls and plans to spend more time together.
She will be remembered as a loving Mom, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend.
