R. James "Jimmy" Chavis 86, departed life on Thursday, December 16,2021 at a local hospital in Lake Charles, La.  He was born May 25, 1935, to Louis Chavis Sr., and Valentine Richard Chavis of Church Point, La. He worked at Reynolds Alumninum Plant for 30 years until his retirement.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Mary Ruby Chavis, 3 son Gerald Chavis of Lake Charles, Andre Chavis of Lake Charles , Wade Chavis (Connie) of Lake Charles, 2 Daughters Rachel Chavis of Lake Charles and Melissa Chavis of Lake Charles.  One Brother Joseph (Elmelda) Chavis of Lake Charles.  Three sisters, Mary Louise Darjean of Beaumount, TX, Vernadine Chavis and Barbara Ringo both of Lake Charles. 9 grandchildren, Alvin Prudhomme, Benedict Holland, Danielle Holland, Toccara Holland, Brandon Holland, Torian James, Xavier Chavis, Gayln Chavis and Devin Collins and 8 Great Grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Valentine Chavis, three sisters Nellie Sam, Mary Guillory and Irma Cade; four brothers, Herman Chavis, Robert Lee Chavis , Clayton Chavis and Louis Chavis, Jr.
