Obituary

Raymond Dugar of Lake Charles, La., passed away in his home on Sept. 19, 2013. He was born on Jan. 6, 1924, in Iowa, La., toIke Dugar and Ernestine ("Chile") Prejean. Raymond had a lifelong love of fishing and baseball, especially the Negro Leagues. He was an avid birdwatcher, a master chef at barbecuing, and he was a superb joke teller. His love for humor and jokes warmed the hearts and tickled the souls of all who were fortunate enough to be in his presence. His appreciation of jazz manifested itself in his love of Anita O''Day, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Raymond was a veteran of World War II; his fondest memories were of his time spent in France, Switzerland and Germany. Raymond was employed with PPG Industries for approximately 32 years. He was also an agent for Purple Shield Insurance Company for a number of years.

Raymond''s family extends sincere thanks and appreciation for the kindness and prayers of friends given during his illness. These memories of love so freely shown will light the path as we send him on his final journey into heaven.

Raymond is predeceased by his parents, Ike Dugar and Ernestine ("Chile") Prejean; his son, Michael W. Dugar; and his brothers, Ernest Bellard and Horace Celestine

Raymond is survived by his wife, Velma Dartez Dugar, his devoted and loving spouse of 66 years. He is also survived by his children, Phyllis (Judge Gene) Thibodeaux of Lake Charles, Jeffery (Judith) Dugar of New Orleans, and Hugh A. ("Huey") Dugar of Lake Charles; his two grandchildren, Danica Royster of Neah Bay, Wash., and Jared Dugar of New Orleans; and his two great-grandchildren, Devin and Danice of Neah Bay, Wash. Raymond is also survived by his sister, Myrtle Peterson of Lake Charles.

Visitation will be from 7 a.m. 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street. Following the visitation, the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1100 Mill Street. Pastor Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, under of the direction of Combre Funeral Home.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Service date: Sept. 21, 2013

Visitation will be from 7 a.m. 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street. Following the visitation, the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1100 Mill Street. Pastor Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, under of the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
