Obituary

Regina Outley Mitchell, departed this life on October 12, 2016.

Regina Outley Mitchell was born on August 23, 1925 in Lake Charles, LA to Willie Outley and Mittie Piert Outley. She was reared by her mother and very dear grandmother, Rhine Piert Regina married Delma Joseph Mitchell in Lake Charles, LA on February 5, 1956 and to this union eleven children were reared.Regina loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served on several ministries until her health failed. She was a charter member of the Nickel-A-Day Club, Chairperson of the Charity Fund, S.A.L.T. Ministry, Women''s Ministry, Women''s Sunday School Class and Prayer Ministry. Regina participated in her last prayer meeting on Monday, October 3rd surrounded by her faithful Monday crew: Vera Lee Mormon, Marjorie Johnson, Gregory Griffin and Etta Pete. Her faithfulness to her God and His ministry was displayed when she requested to go to church on October 9th even though she was noticeably ill. Regina''s hobbies included shopping, talking on the telephone and cookingand the greatest of these was cooking. She displayed her love for others through this very medium. Regina once reminisced, "I wanted to cook so badly that I used to cook grass in a can on a fire that I created outside in the yard."The role that Regina cherished most was that of being a Mother. One piece of advice she shared for mothers during her 90th birthday celebration was "Be very sure that you are ready to be a mother. It is a great responsibility. You want to bring up your children the way they should be brought up. Instill values and morals in them because you should always want the best for your kids." Regina''s role of Community Mother did not go unnoticed. She did not think it was happenstance that her house was in close proximity to a school because she was there to serve the children. During torrential downpours, students waited at her house for the bus or completed their grooming regimens before school or enjoyed breakfast before an early morning class or enjoyed eating dinner after school. She would sometimes place an igloo of cold water out for the band members on those hot August practice days.

Regina leaves to cherish her memory, daughters: Etta Pearl Pete (Wilson), Tammy Renee Mitchell, Gisele Antoinette Williams and Deadra Latrice Mitchell all of Lake Charles, LA; and Bridgette Dawn Liggons of Indianapolis, IN; sons: James Albert Outley (Janie) of Oakland, CA, Delma Joseph Mitchell of Stockton, CA and Clyde Wayne Mitchell (Paula) of Lake Charles, LA and sister: Audry Nell Jackson (Andrew) of Houston, TX .Grandchildren: Mitchell Gregory Pete (Leticia), Alicia Chambers (Gerald), Christopher Outley (Brandy), Brandon Outley, Deric Outley (LaToya), Jolanda Sinegal, Tracy Outley, Janera Sinegal, Jennifer Outley, Naomi Lubin (James), Johnny Sinegal, Dominique Mitchell, Alexandria Mitchell, Clirissa Green, Ashtan Williams and Nia Mitchell; twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Regina was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Delma Joseph Mitchell, children: Thelicia Dee Mason, Artie Faye Outley and Carl Lee Esclavon; mother and grandmother; siblings: Hazel Outley, Elmer Davis and Willie Mae Outley.
