IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ressie Mae
Mouton
May 7, 1934 – September 4, 2016
Ressie Mae Watts Mouton was born on May 7, 1934 in Oakvale, Mississippi to Shelby and Louvenia Watts. She was the youngest of five siblings. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was blessed with five children.
She became a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Taylor. In 1970 she met and later married Edgar Mouton, Jr. To this union one child was born; Adrian Ben. Ressie Mae was an active member at Mount Zion until her health began to fail her. Ressie Mae was a jack of ALL trades. Anyone that needed their hair fried, dyed and laid to the side, came to her to get their hair pressed. Ressie Mae loved flowers, so she decided to add another trade to her resume of life. She received her license and opened her first flower shop on Moeling Street in Lake Charles, in 1980''s, called "Mouton''s Flower Shop". Throughout her years of being a florist she worked for Combre Flower and Funeral Home for a number of years. Later, she opened her second shop on the corner of Mill St. and Shattuck St where she also sold suits and hats. She never turned down anyone on a flower order, she wanted to please everyone. She took pride in every one of her arrangements, corsages, sprays or whatever was ordered. Ressie Mae was a florist until her health began to fail her in 2006. But that didn''t stop her, she still wanted to make flowers. That was her true passion and calling from God. She also owned a Cantina, a restaurant on Opelousas St in Lake Charles. Ressie never met a stranger. Ressie Mae was very festive, she enjoyed every holiday especially Christmas. She was known for her expansion of yard decorations.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Edgar Mouton Jr, her parents; Shelby and Louvenia Watts; siblings; Cleveland Oatis, James Watts Sr, Dontis Watts Servant and Myrtis Watts, and two sons; MacDavid Hathorn and baby Bonton.
