Atty. Robert Paul Shelton, 68, of Lake Charles, passed away on August 14 ^th in a local hospital.

He was the son of the late Harold and Lillie Shelton.  He was born Sept. 12, 1948.  He attended W.O. Boston High School and graduated in 1966. Upon graduation from high school he joined the United States Navy where he served in the Hospital Corp.  He was also employed as a certified physician's assistant with the U.S. Dept. of Justice Bureau of Prisons.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from McNeese State University. He later earned his law degree from Southern University School of Law.  He practiced law for twenty-eight years and was a member of various bar associations.  Locally, he was an active member of the Louis-Martinet Society. He was currently employed with the Calcasieu Parish Public Defenders Office.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Harold A. Shelton, mother Lillie Jackson Shelton, and brother, A. George Shelton.

On June18th, 1970, he was united in marriage to Priscilla Lemelle and to this union four children were born:  Karl Shelton, Angela (Anthony) Celestine, Crystal  (Derrick) Trail, and Jeremy P. Shelton.  He is survived by two sisters, Pat Shelton and Jackie Shelton, both of Lake Charles and three brothers, William Arthur Shelton (Ruth), Dr. Harold T. Shelton(Henrietta), all of Lake Charles and Michael L. Shelton (Elizabeth) of Beaumont, Tx and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and  friends. His heart's joy was being "PawPaw" to his 7 grandchildren.

He was a member of New Sunlight Baptist Church, where he was baptized at a young age.  Robert was a true lover of music. He also enjoyed watching football games, fishing, reading and writing. He did not hesitate to share his knowledge and words of wisdom with others.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
