Lake Charles – Rodney (Paw Paw) Guidry was called home surrounded by family and friends, Saturday, July 28, 2012. He will lovingly be remembered for his devotion to his family and his faith.
Mr. Guidry was born on January 8, 1929 as the 4 th of seven (7) children to Spencer and Bernadette Thomas Guidry. Rodney was raised in Sunset, Louisiana. In 1957, he and his wife made Lake Charles their home until called home by his Lord and Savior. At the age of 21, Mr. Guidry joined the United States Army and worked up to the ranks of Corporal during the Korea war where he received the American Occupational Medal.
Mr. Guidry was married to his bride, Doris Jordan, for more than 58 years. He leaves to honor his memory his wife; three daughters: Mary Jacqueline Guidry Reed, Peggy Ann (Ronald) Blanchard, Katie Jane (Van) Guidry-Johnson, all of Lake Charles; and one son: John Roland Guidry of Sunset, Louisiana. Mr. Guidry leaves to mourns his grandchildren, Gabriel Reed, Joshua (LaToya) Reed, and Alexander Reed, John (Kawonna) Guidry, Ashley Guidry, Monique Guidry, Darrell Guilbeaux, Ron Blanchard, Deanne Blanchard and Lakiyn LaRocca; great grandchildren: Kaelon Fontenot, Kendall Lavergne, DeMarcus LaRocca, Kadence and Jace Guidry, Alaina and Jaylyn Reed; and siblings: Amelia Guidry Henry, Eddie Guidry, Ashton Guidry and Spencer Guidry all of Sunset, Louisiana.
Mr. Guidry was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Knights of Peter Claver Council # 141 for over 57 years where he was a third degree knight. He was a dedicated parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles.
Rodney worked 18 years as a Teamster for I.G. Warehouse until they closed their doors in 1977. He retired at age 80 after a long career with Hyatt Construction.
Paw Paw Rodney loved to spend time outside working in his garden and doing odds and ends around the house. He also loved laughing with his friends and family and spoiling his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by brother, Melvin Briscoe; sister, Isabel Guidry; and his granddaughter, Doris Cecile Blanchard.
His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Memorial Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA., under the direction of Combre Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the funeral home with the Knights of Peter Claver Ritual at 9:00 a.m
