Roland James Thierry was born on October 12, 1953 to Eddie and Lillian Frank Thierry in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was the twelfth of fourteen children. He departed this life surrounded by family on August 22, 2026, at 10:34 a.m.

He was a confirmed Catholic and made his first confirmation at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lawtell, Louisiana. Roland attended Lawtell High School. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1976. He worked as a laborer most of his life. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He truly enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Lillian "Flower" Thierry and Roland "Baby" Thierry, Jr.; his bonus children: Lloyd Ruffin, Jr. (Kristie), Darolynn Thompson (Terry), and Tonya Crumbly (Darrel), all of Houma, Louisiana, Sharon Ruffin-Hardy (Patrick) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Michael A. Ruffin (Deovanna) of San Antonio, Texas.

His grandchildren: Tralyn, Taylor, Tyler, Lia, Walter, Kaci, Brandon, Kevin, Jodi, Brionne, Patrick Jr., C. Joseph, Bailey, Ally, M’Kira, Michael, Jr., M’Kierlier, Collin, Arionne, Darian, Ja’den, Myles, and Ja’lon; and his great grandchildren: Braker, Amir, Peyton, Estelle, Milani, and Ella.

His brothers: Floyd Thierry, Sr. (Mildred) of Opelousas, Louisiana, Ferdinand Thierry, Sr. of Lawtell, Louisiana, Michael W. Thierry, Sr. (Evelyn) of Hampshire, Texas, and Wilbert Berry (Beate) of Germany; sister- in- laws: Shirley Berry and Sharon Thierry, God child: Meagan B. Thierry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lillian Frank Thierry; his wife, Bertha Ray Thierry; his brothers, Larry, Edward, and Joseph Thierry, and Clint Berry; and his sisters, Levia Richard, Melba Lavergne, Jeanette Thibodeaux, Gertrude Thierry, Loretta Carter, Peggy Thierry, and Celestine Thierry.

Visitation will be on Friday , August 28, 2026 at 8:00 A.M. with funeral services at 9:00 A.M. in St. Luke Baptist Church located at 126 Catalina Street, Lake Charles, La. under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
