Ronnie Winfrey was born on May 9, 1956, to the late Felix and Lillie Mae Winfrey in Kinder, Louisiana. He was the youngest male among seven siblings. A proud native of Kinder, he graduated as Valedictorian from W.O. Boston High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 1974. He then attended Grambling State University on a four-year academic scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. Ronnie furthered his education at McNeese State University, where he obtained a master's degree in education.
After finishing his studies, Ronnie started his teaching career at Roanoke Junior Middle School in Jeff Davis Parish. In 1990, he joined the faculty at DeQuincy High School within the Calcasieu Parish school district. His educational journey took him to Washington Marion High School, where he taught French and Civics. He later served as vice principal at Reynard Junior High School until his retirement in May 2011.
Ronnie was committed to improving students' educational experiences and was actively engaged in his community outside of the classroom.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Lillie Mae Winfrey, and his brothers, Carl Winfrey, Harold Winfrey, and Hilton Winfrey, and his sister, Wadean Lee.
He is survived by his son, Desmond Johnson of Lake Charles, LA; his sister, Nancy Williams of San Antonio, TX; and his brother, Robert Winfrey of Houston, TX. Ronnie also leaves behind a loving circle of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will cherish his memory.
His visitation will be Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. with his funeral following at 12:00 P.M., at Warren United Methodist Church. Reverend Valla Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Botley Cemetery, Kinder, Louisiana, under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
