Rosa Bea Hagger Lewis, the oldest of six children of the late Leroy and Lela Hagger was born March 1, 1928 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She departed this life for the spiritual domain on May 8, 2014.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Emmanuel Baptist Church and remained a faithful and dedicated member of the Church through several pastors and now under the leadership of Rev. Roland Mouton, Jr.
She attended the Lake Charles public schools and graduated from Second Ward High School in 1946. She also graduated from Annie Frank School of Beauty and became a licensed beautician. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Lela Hagger, her son Kenneth Darrell, two brothers Morris and Ernest Hagger, and, a brother-in-law Edward M. Johnson. She was an avid reader, loved history and collected historical events which she was quick to share through long, entertaining conversation.
Rosa Bea leaves to cherish her memories, a loving husband, Noah Lewis of sixty-six (66) years, married December 7, 1947, to which four children were born. Her children left to celebrate her memories are two sons Noah Wayne (Glendalyn) of New Orleans, Louisiana and Bryan Aaron (Dorothy) of Tallahassee, Florida, and one daughter Schirrell Jacqueline (Pratt) of Houston Texas. She is survived by three sisters Mae Ruth Johnson of Seattle, Washington, Roy Lee (Edward) McKinley, and Gloria Dean Johnson of Lake Charles, LA. She also leaves to cherish her memories, three grandchildren, Nedra (Lucius) Craig of New Orleans, Louisiana, Noah Jason (Adero) Lewis of New Orleans, Louisiana and Morgan A. Robinson of Houston, Texas; two great grandchildren Lucius-Joshua and Arden Craig of New Orleans. She also leaves to cherish her memories, Alvin Jarreau, Sr (Anitra) who was like a grandson to her. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends will miss her stories, smile, and wit.
Her homegoing celebration will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in New Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronald Mouton will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 9 a.m to 11:00 a.m Wednesday in the church.
